KUCHING: It was a weekend of smiles and creativity at Hock Seng Lee’s “Family Fun @ La Promenade”, where there were games for all and competitions.
Events began at 9am on Jan 2 with bike rides, kite flying and competitions for both adults and kids.
Saturday’s main contest was the cookies decoration competition, organised by HSL and Indah House.
Within an hour, Angelia Tan, Nur Qamaryna Ngu Abdullah and Benjamin Tan made colourful and pretty cookies, winning them first to third places. Jayden Teo, Mandy Kong and Ayden Boon won consolation prizes.
All took home cash prizes
On Sunday, there was a colouring contest, which saw over dozens of participants, split into seven to nine-year-olds and 10 to 12-year-old categories.
All weekend long activities also included guided tours of La Promenade, and giveaways of Black Bean coffees, Taka cakes, popcorn, cotton candy and balloons.
Both days also included batik painting classes, which were a big hit. Over 100 canvases were prepared.
“La Promenade is a great community for the entire family. It is safe, secure and green. There is a clubhouse with a salt water pool, gym and yoga room. Opening officially is La Promenade Mall in mid Jan, which kicks off the 200-acre township’s commercial zone,” said executive director Simon Lau.
La Promenade is HSL’s flagship — 160acres is gated residences, while 40 acres is commercial. The Mall will open with Choice Supermarket as its anchor tenant, Black Bean Coffee & Tea, NOMS, Hock King Authentic Chicken Rice, Rice King and Taka Patisserie.
Opening soon is Mr Domus, Sweat Factory, an art gallery and a premium bubble tea outlet.
HSL is adopting a “support local” policy for its mall’s tenants, which include proven brands like Choice and Black Bean, and new and proven businesses by young developers like NOMS.
A portion of the fourth floor is reserved for HSL’s corporate social responsibility. Tenants include Hope Place, Helping Hands, Intellectually Disabled Adults Society and Bodhi Counselling Centre.
“This Family Fun weekend is a showcase of all that is possible at La Promenade. This is a township within a meticulously planned park. Our housing density is half-of-normal, and as a result, we have twice the amount of open spaces,” said HSL leasing manager Trish Lui.
“The mall, which is lease-only for better tenancy mix, is just the start of our commercial plans. In the pipeline is a landscape nursery and sports facilities.”
HSL moved to La Promenade on July 20 from its old offices at Pending.
