HSL Helped Coordinate NREB Enviro Run In Kuching

KUCHING: In its bid to go green and support healthy lifestyles and active living, Hock Seng Lee (HSL) participated in the NREB Enviro Run by marshalling and supporting some 700 runners in Kuching last weekend.

HSL staff were seen distributing drinking water to runners during the event.
Organised by Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the run is divided into the 3km and 7km categories. A warm-up session was held for the participants before the start of the run in the vicinity of the old state legislative assembly building (DUN) in Petra Jaya.
According to HSL’s corporate communications manager Cheryl Cheah, the NREB’s silver jubilee run is aimed to create a cleaner, greener and healthier Sarawak, which is aligned with HSL’s commitment towards its new ‘Healthy Bodies, Happy Minds’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme that was rolled out last December as an avenue to serve the community and protect the environment.
“Our effort in environment conservation is not something new. This is clearly demonstrated when the company works hard in incorporating green spaces and practices in the planning and landscape implementation of our flagship mixed development, La Promenade, which won the merit prize at the Malaysian Landscape Architecture Awards last year. Our new and upcoming headquarters along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway will also be the first private office building in Sarawak to receive the Green Building Index (GBI) certification,” Cheah said.
Cheah also said that the company wide outreach programme would also provide great opportunities for its staff to bond and interact with one another outside their usual work environment which is crucial for their well being.
More than 35 of HSL’s employees from various departments including those from accounts, project management, human resource and admin, assisted the run by managing the traffic. They were also involved in the distribution water, food and medals to the runners and helped with the post-event clean up.
“This is the fourth CSR event we have organised this year since “Healthy Bodies, Happy Minds” was launched. Going green is not just about recycling or trees planting. We are proud that our staffs have made a stance in keeping the environment clean through volunteerism for this event,” she said.
