HSL has long been active in the spirit of giving to the less fortunate and is renowned for its commitment to sustainable, responsible business practices and a caring ethos towards its staff. HSL's CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programme is wide ranging and covers both Group activities and engaging individual staff members in making meaningful contributions to a better community be it through volunteerism or simply recycling.
At HSL Group level, a long established donation programme in conjunction with the Chinese New Year sees numerous local charities in Sarawak receiving benefits while throughout the year HSL supports a variety of community, sporting and cultural events.
HSL has pioneered systematic tree preservation whereby large trees are carefully excavated, pollarded and preserved with the aid of horticultural specialists. Thereafter, they are relocated and replanted using cranes. Several large, old raintrees salvaged from road projects have been successfully saved.
Environmental preservation continues to be a critical consideration in all HSL's operations and EIAs are an integral part of project proposals. Many projects are in fact for the purpose of protecting the natural and the man-made environment. Among these are shore protection works, revetment walls, maintenance dredging, flood mitigation, drainage and water management.
The Board of HSL is fully committed to the highest standards of corporate governance, recognising that transparency and accountability are fundamental to ensuring sustained business prosperity, enhancing shareholder value and safeguarding Group assets.
The founding Yu/Yii family remain the majority shareholders in the company, while Permodalan Nasional Berhad and the Employees' Provident Fund are among the substantial long term investors. |
